About Export Montana

Mission Statement

The Office of Trade and International Relations provides export information, as well as technical and marketing assistance, to Montana companies pursuing commercial opportunities. We help Montanans prosper by diversifying their customer base and increase sales of Montana products and services.

Manages Office of Trade & International Relations for the Department of Commerce. Helps Montana businesses to assess market potential and to access State and Federal grants for marketing activities, and coordinates cooperative marketing opportunities such as Montana Pavilions at trade shows.

International Trade Officer

Assists Montana businesses with market research, export compliance and logistics, and manages Montana’s Sister State relationships. Also coordinates international diplomacy and relations activities, including trade missions.

Accomplishments

We're passionate about helping small business increase their international sales and strengthen Montana’s economy.


  • Since 2013, Export Montana has awarded nearly $1.2 million in grants to 456 Montana businesses, with a return on investment of $377 million in sales and 646 jobs created or retained.
  • In the last five years, Export Montana has helped create or retain 646 jobs and provided technical assistance to 569 businesses.
  • In 2017, of the grants Export Montana awarded, 50% were to new clients. We travel to every region of the state to provide technical, compliance, and financial assistance to companies.
  • Montana’s exports reached a record high of $1.7 billion in 2017.
