Tourism Grant Program Opens for Fiscal Year 2017

Thursday, July 7, 2016/Categories: Market MT, Tourism

HELENA – Applications have opened for the fiscal year 2017 cycle of the Tourism Grant Program at the Montana Office of Tourism and Business Development (MOTBD).

“The Tourism Grant Program is a crucial economic development investment. This is the only program focused on the important work of developing the tourism industry, a substantial driver of our whole economy,” said MOTBD Division Administrator Sean Becker.

Through FY17, funds will become available to support tourism-related projects under three categories: digital development, infrastructure, and event paid media advertising.

The program is funded through the Lodging Facility Use Tax. Up to 5.8 percent of the tax distributed to the Department of Commerce will be available this fiscal year. Based on past collections, MOTBD estimates this amount could reach $1 million in fiscal year 2017, which began July 1, 2016.

Montana county and city governments, tribal governments, nonprofit organizations, and private businesses are eligible to receive a grant. Match requirements apply and vary depending on the type of applicant. There is no deadline to apply; applications will be accepted continually and awarded as funds become available.
