HELENA, Mont. – The Montana Department of Commerce today announced registration is now open to attend the 2020 Governor’s Conference on Tourism and Recreation.

The annual conference celebrates and advances Montana’s thriving tourism and recreation economy. This year’s conference will be in Billings from April 26-28. Hundreds of stakeholders from across the state are expected to attend.

“The Department is thrilled to bring tourism and recreation leaders to Billings for this year’s Governor’s Conference on Tourism and Recreation as we continue to work with our partners to increase awareness of Montana as a tourism destination,” Commerce Director Tara Rice said. “As ‘Montana’s Trailhead,’ Billings has so much to offer when it comes to inspiring innovative ways to strengthen local economies through these thriving industries.”

Tourism and recreation contribute billions of dollars to Montana’s economy each year. Last year, 12.4 million non-resident visitors traveled to Montana and spent an estimated $3.7 billion in state. That was a nearly 11 percent increase in visitor spending from 2017.

Additionally, the outdoor recreation industry in Montana generates $7.1 billion in consumer spending and supports more than 71,000 jobs. According to a report released this fall, Montana recently ranked second in the nation for the impact outdoor recreation has on the state’s economy.

“Billings is proud to host the 2020 Governor’s Conference on Tourism and Recreation. This conference will kick off a new decade of innovative programming and inspiration that will help align Montana’s tourism industry for the future. We are proud this will take place at Montana’s Trailhead,” said Alex Tyson, executive director of Visit Billings. “This conference is crucial to fostering Montana’s tourism economy as it connects tourism entities, organizations, and partners to boost business for the next season, and for years to come.”
