HELENA, Mont. – On Friday, Dec. 6, Department of Commerce Director Tara Rice will join the writer and director of the new film "Mickey and the Bear" at the film’s Anaconda premiere, where it was filmed in 2018.
Rice and Annabelle Attanasio will attend the film’s hometown showing at the historic Washoe Theatre at 7 p.m. "Mickey and the Bear" is playing in theaters nationwide and has been shown at several world-renowned film festivals, including Cannes ACID and SXSW.
The "Mickey and the Bear" production team recruited members of the Anaconda community as actors and extras, and secured funding to bring production to Anaconda in-part through a $50,000 Big Sky Film Grant awarded by the Montana Film Office at the Department of Commerce. One standout location, the historic Club Moderne, shows off its vintage neon and art deco lines in a pivotal scene.
“The Montana Department of Commerce is proud to have brought the production of this film – and the economic benefits that come with it – to Montana,” Rice said.
"Mickey and the Bear" is the coming-of-age story of headstrong teenager Mickey Peck (Camila Morrone) who navigates a loving but volatile relationship with her veteran father (James Badge Dale).
