HELENA, Mont. – The Department of Commerce on Friday will continue its winter tourism marketing campaign with a Facebook Live event to be shot in 360-degree video for the first time ever.
Whitefish native and Olympic hopeful Maggie Voisin will host the downhill skiing-focused event, which will be shot in partnership with Explore Whitefish at Whitefish Mountain Resort. The 360-degree video technology gives viewers full control of the camera while the video is playing, allowing them to explore the slopes from any angle.
“Montana has been at the cutting edge of tourism marketing and a leader in social media for more than a decade,” said Commerce Director Pam Haxby-Cote. “Now we’re charting new territory again, and we couldn’t be more excited to have a Montana-born ambassador help us to show off some of the best skiing in the world.”
At 15, Voisin was the youngest member of Team USA selected to compete at the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi. Now 19, she’s vying for a spot in women’s slopestyle at the 2018 Winter Games in PyeongChang.
Commerce has been a leader in using new Facebook technologies. Earlier this year it used the “Canvas” ad tool to provide users with a full-screen immersive Montana experience within the Facebook platform.
Friday’s event is part of a larger campaign in which video has been used to inspire travelers to visit Montana. Earlier this fall, Commerce released four winter-themed episodes for the “Discover Your #MontanaMoment” video series at VisitMT.com.
The live event starts at 8 a.m. at the Visit Montana Facebook page: facebook.com/visitmontana. The video will be available to watch after the live event as well.
