Longtime Belgrade business Chalet Market of Montana and its owners Mark and Gwen Croghan have been honored by their Made in Montana peers as the 2018 Retailer of the Year.
The Chalet Market first opened in 1976 by a group of local ranchers who were looking for a way to locally sell their meat. In 2012, the Croghans purchased the Chalet and continue to produce and sell their own Montana-made smoked meats. Their charming chalet-style store is just south of the I-90 interchange on the way to Big Sky and West Yellowstone.
Lieutenant Governor Mike Cooney and Montana Department of Commerce Director Pam Haxby-Cote were on hand Friday during the Made in Montana Tradeshow to present the Croghans with this year’s award.
“It’s small business owners like Mark and Gwen Croghan who highlight the very best of Montana-made food and gifts that keep visitors and locals returning for more,” Lt. Gov. Mike Cooney said.
The Croghans’ store is also stocked with other Montana-made food and gifts, which is why the pair were nominated by other Made in Montana members to receive this honor. The Croghans are known to support Montana manufacturers and have a loyal commitment to selling and promoting Montana-made products.
“The great thing is, Made in Montana sells itself,” Gwen Croghan said. “We’re known for selling Made in Montana, and once you get that reputation, it’s so easy to sell the products because they’re so great, and people seek them out because they want to buy local.”
